Homecoming Week at Shorecrest

The week of October 10-15, 2011 is Homecoming Week at Shorecrest High School.  Do you remember the fun during that time of year, when YOU were at Shorecrest?  This year's theme, voted on by homerooms, is Disney, and Shorecrest will celebrate "The Happiest Homecoming on Earth."  Each class picked a Disney movie to represent it:  freshmen chose Alice in Wonderland; sophomores Mulan; juniors Peter Pan, and the seniors Lion King.  Each class will do activities to help carry out their movie theme, including decorating a display case; creating a "backdrop" sign to be used in the gym during the Homecoming Assembly; and participating in contests throughout the week.

Each day during the week has been assigned special clothing, as well:
Monday - dress like a Nerd day
Tuesday - wear your Class Color day (gr. 9 - white; gr. 10 - blue, gr. 11 - yellow, gr. 12 - green)
Wednesday - dress for a Career day
Thursday - dress in your Class Theme
Friday - Spirit Day -go wild and crazy in gold, green and navy!

The big football game will be on Friday evening (against Oak Harbor High School at 7 PM at Shoreline Stadium - the public is welcome; admission charge applies).  The Homecoming Court will be presented at halftime, and there will be recognition of alumni, as well as a performance by our superb kilted Marching Band and our precision Flag Team.  And many students associate "Homecoming" with the dance to be held the next night at Shorecrest - theme this year is "Happily Ever After."

Although it won't happen at this Homecoming, this Alumni group hopes to eventually hold gatherings for Alumni in conjunction with Homecoming (that's who is supposed to be "coming home," after all!)  Some schools have similar functions, but in the time just before the winter break, when college students (the more recent Shorecrest graduates) are home from college and are looking to connect with former classmates.  It may be that time frame will be less hectic at the school.

Do you have fond memories of Homecoming at Shorecrest?  Leave a comment!

Looking back from a prospective of some 35 years I recognize something special about Mr. Velie. That was that even thou I was never in one of his classes he did know my name and would speak to me by name on the occasions that we interacted. I hope that this was an attitude that he passed on to the other teachers that he worked with over the years.

It is always fun to get together with past classmates again. Alumni homecoming is the perfect time to catch up with each other while drinking some wine to beef up the talks. You could buy the best liquor online and bring it so that you would have a great time.

High school reunions has got to be the best recollection and get together event. Nothing beats the many years of fun from your pre-adolescent years.
