Two items of interest to Shorecrest Alumni . . .

Two items of interest to Shorecrest Alumni . . . .

1.  A memorial service for longtime Shorecrest teacher and coach Ralph Velie will be held at 10:30 AM on Saturday, February 25, 2012, at Phinney Ridge Lutheran Church in Seattle.  A celebration of his life will follow.  Mr. Velie taught in Shoreline for almost 40 years, most of which were at Shorecrest.  Many will remember his wife, Nancy (Nehen) Velie, who was also a longtime Shorecrest employee.   A fund to help Shorecrest students with athletic and activity expenses has been set up; donations to the Ralph Velie Memorial Fund may be made at any branch of Chase Bank.

2.  Shorecrest's remodel is ongoing - here are some current photos.

The new gym has walls now, and will be ready for use next school year.

Over winter vacation, the north end of the B and C halls, and the entire F hall (including the band and orchestra rooms), were taken down, as well as the lobby and the "green room" of the theater.   The North parking lot is closed.
The Theater, and the (non-existent) music rooms, as seen facing east from the (former) North lot

Work has begun in preparation for construction of new Visual and Performing Arts rooms there.

Over the coming summer, the old gym and the J and S halls will come down, and construction will begin on the new main building.

Looking back from a prospective of some 35 years I recognize something special about Mr. Velie. That was that even thou I was never in one of his classes he did know my name and would speak to me by name on the occasions that we interacted. I hope that this was an attitude that he passed on to the other teachers that he worked with over the years.
